Les Baker 28th December 2021

I was very sad to hear of John's passing. I first met him In the 60's when he and Martin and several others stayed at my Auntie Lily and Uncle Jack's house (261 Bath Road ). They were a great bunch of men and I used to talk to them on many occasions when I came to Reading and I remember that John was fun loving and mischievous back then, which never changed all the time that I knew him. He and Martin took me on as a driver for them years later and were good people to work for. John always loved to play little pranks and loved jokes. I used to wind him up , just to agitate him and at the end, gave him the punchline, to which he would laugh and call me a name, so after that I called him 'Grouchy' and he loved it and laughed with me. He was a lovely man and was a very good friend to me over the years . He and his family arranged the shipping for me and got me a container , delivered to my home and then ran it to the port for me, they did this for me just at cost. He lent me cars when I came over to England and told me 'if I've got one you can have it while you're here' There aren't many like that around and John was the best . I will miss him .God bless you John and thank you for being my friend, there will never be any one like you . My deepest condolences to your family and friends. Les Baker
